Cassidy Cornell is a devoted wife, mama, and backyard farmer. Her lifelong love of cooking and eating led her to overhaul her family’s lifestyle and relationship with food. After many years of planning and dreaming, Cassidy now raises chickens, ducks, quail, dairy goats, and meat birds on her family’s one-acre suburban homestead in beautiful Eastern Washington. As a home cook, Cassidy encourages others to get familiar with their food on a more intimate level, whether that’s cooking from scratch, sourcing locally, or keeping chickens in the backyard. Above all else, she is passionate about motivating others to take part in raising their own food, regardless of the size of their property. Her “start where you are” mentality was inspired by her own journey to small-scale homesteading and domestic animal husbandry. Cassidy is the face behind The Halftime Homestead, an Instagram account she started when she began keeping quail while working as a part-time middle school teacher. Today, she uses her platform in the hopes of educating and inspiring people to start homesteading in their own backyards
